Fruit Golf | Behind the Scenes
Client: Coal Car Studio | Platform: VR, Mobile | Type: Launch Trailer
In Fruit Golf, one player straps on a headset and putts their way through a course with a piece of fruit instead of a ball. The rest of the group tries to stop them, in VR or on a phone or tablet, dropping sharks, flying pigs and exploding barrels mid-swing.
For the launch trailer we wanted that crossplay to feel real, so we cast a real family. Long-time collaborator Jonathan Rollins played the golfer, with his own kids and mother-in-law playing saboteur, some in headsets alongside him, some on phones. We shot the live-action open on RED at Golf Baren in Nacka Strand, then walked eight minutes down the road to an apartment to capture the actual multiplayer session: two players in VR, two on iPhone and iPad, swapping setups as we went.
Coal Car's spectator PC build did a lot of heavy lifting on the gameplay side. Quad-split capture of every POV at once, individual angles in full 4K, and a freecam we could fly through the course for the more cinematic shots. Good tools make for a much easier edit.
You're either putting or plotting. Either way, it made for a fun day on set.
